Psychology Fellowship at the University of Kansas: Postdoctoral Psychology Fellowship position in Multicultural Emphasis is available at the University of Kansas Medical Center. The Postdoctoral Psychology Fellowship (Multicultural emphasis) position is a full-time, 12-month appointment, running from August 9, 2021, to August 8, 2022. The Fellow will assume a range of responsibilities including clinical assessment and treatment, campus outreach and education, systems consultation and liaison, and supervision of advanced doctoral-level counseling practicum students.

Responsibilities

Candidates on this Psychology Fellowship at the University of Kansas Medical Center

  • Provide triage, intake assessment, individual counseling, couples counseling, multiculturally-focused group therapy, workshops facilitation, telehealth, and crisis intervention.
  • Deliver culturally-informed educational outreach programs to the health science students and medical residents on a range of psycho-educational topics (e.g., stress management, mindfulness, diplomacy skills).
  • In coordination with the Psychologist – Multicultural Specialist, provide campus-wide training for KUMC students, residents, and faculty on topics such as cultural competency and compassion, LGBTQIA, religious diversity, and physical/mental disability awareness.
  • Potentially supervise and train advanced doctoral-level practicum counseling students.
  • Interpret psychological testing when clinically indicated.
  • Pursue opportunities for further professional development, including completion of “supervised practice” hours and preparation for licensing exam.

Training Benefits

  • Two hours per week of individual clinical supervision by a licensed psychologist. Additional time is provided for the supervision of supervision and group.
  • Two hours per week of didactic training. The postdoctoral fellow will develop and lead several diversity-focused didactic training sessions.
  • Weekly meetings with staff for case collaboration, clinical administration, and planning.
  • Also, coaching and practice teaching psychoeducation and wellness skills to health science students and medical residents.
  • Training and supervised practice providing telehealth services.
  • Protected time for EPPP study.
  • Funding ($500) and time off for regional or national training experiences and/or study materials.
  • Participation in university-wide diversity committees and task groups.
  • Furthermore, career mentorship, mock interviews, and job search strategy coaching.

Minimum Qualifications

  • APA-accredited graduate program in Counseling (Ph.D., Psy.D., or Ed.D.) or Clinical Psychology (Ph.D. or Psy.D.), and be license-eligible (i.e., except for any supervised postdoctoral hours).
  • The APA-accredited internship program with a minimum of 1-2 years of experience providing assessment and treatment of college students, as well as campus-based consultation and outreach.
  • All requirements for Ph.D., Ed.D., or Psy.D. prior to starting the postdoctoral fellowship (e.g., dissertation defended and submitted).
  • Training and experience with serving diverse student populations, bilingual proficiency, multicultural psycho-educational training, diversity program development and/or applied/clinical multicultural research.
